The Open Source Buddhist Research Institute of Madison
has been directed by Rev. Dr. James Kenneth Powell II since its founding in 2001.
It is its ongoing mission to provide the most effective education about
Buddhism and other globaly perspectives in order that its voice might be
heard in the world and its perspective encountered by the viewer in an
engaging manner.
We are open (sunya, stong pa) in that we adhere
to no particular sect of Buddhism
It is a source in that all participants are invited to
contribute educational video to this site. As Siddhartha taught us,
the source of everything is everything and thus no thing. Our aim is
to employ the internet as an inter-related web, the core perspective of
Buddhism.
We offer an expanding archive of educational video freely and offer online courses and tutorials. Please email us at jameskennethpowell@gmail.com for more information.
Rev. Dr. James Kenneth Powell II remains the editor-in-chief of the open source Buddhism project. He has studied Buddhism with Dr. Isshi Yamada (emeritus, Northwestern) and Geshe Lhundhup Sopa (emeritus, University of Wisconsin - Madison. He studied Theology at Cambridge with Dr. Christopher Rowland and ministry at the University of Chicago wtih Dr. David Tracy.
